What treatments are effective in preventing alcohol related diseases?

For over 30 years I suffered from alcoholism, losing jobs, being stabbed in the heart due to domestic violence and generally deteriating in health.
18 years ago I was forced to go to Alcoholics Anonymous. After struggling with the concepts of total abstainence I finally made a descision to stop.
Using the principles laid out in the AA program I have not taken alcohol in any form for the said lenght of time.
I no longer need or want grog.

To treat the disease of alcoholism the only thing that worked for me was an introduction to Alcoholics Anonymous and working the programing of recovery for alcoholism. As such it is not a program but rather a new way of living sober adopting the twelve steps of AA.
Alcoholism without treatment of twelve steps sends me insane and the only way to restore this insanity is through the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous.
The same applied to me with addiction which is a progressed state of my alcoholism. I treat my addiction with NA
adopting the same 12 steps. Without treatment of my addiction it leads to my alcoholism and hence if I drink I will Drug.
Alcohol and Drugs remove the spirit of my soul willing me to die rather than live.

A great way to quit for good is to go to the web site 'rational.org'. Here you will learn to recognize your addictive voice, the one that wants to drink, and know that you have power over that addictive voice.

Have been sober for 8 years in Alcoholics Anonymous. I tried many ways to sober up and only after many futile attempts I tried AA.
My life has turned around since making that decision to try AA and the principles of AA. I do not say AA is the only way to get sober, but in my case it has been the only answer to the painfull way of living under the thumb of Alcohol.Today I am happy..

Cancer patients who are diacharged from hospital need to have a discharge plan that includes the management of alcohol in the survival phase. The primary carer should also be involved in the discharge plan of management post cancer treatment. I have experienced cancer twice and no such plans have been given to me over the past five years not even a set of guidelines to follow. A mandatory dishcharge package would be a start.

To all of you who are recovering from many addictions, I congratulate you for your courage and strength of character to have come thus far. I will remember each of you during my times of meditation and hope I can bring you strength to persist. Know you are at a better place and so are those you love.

This is the "first step" ADMISSION. There are no SUCCESSFUL cures when a person does not admit or realise there is a problem. My alcoholic suffers a serious alcohol related disease and the Dr who treats him has tried all the motherhood statements but has fallen short of saying, "You drink too much too often" and for whatever reason, will not say this. The reality is, my alcoholic could, over time, die from this disease. He does not see the problem to be the alcohol, just a combination of foods, and any other excuse he can find that will take him as far away from having to admit he drinks too much and that it not only impacts his health, but every other aspect of his life, and his family life.

Cures can only be administered when help is sought.
