British Home Office Alcohol and Crime: Taking Stock A study of how intoxicated arrestees are dealt with in police custody. This review draws on information from the academic, health and policing fields to explore the links between alcohol and crime, and to suggest methods which might reduce alcohol-related crime and disorder. No one single measure is likely to be enough but the potential value of local partnerships in any strategy is underlined. This report will provide an evidence base that should aid the development of such local policies and strategies. Alcohol-related crime and disorder data: guidance for local partnerships Focuses on the collection and analysis of alcohol-related crime and disorder data and the routine profiling of data. August 2003 Drinking Crime and Disorder Presents findings from two Home Office studies that explored the relationship between alcohol consumption and offending among 18- to 24- year-olds. 2003 Alcohol-related assault: findings from the British Crime Survey The findings reported will help feed the evidence base on which to build the prevention of alcohol-related crime policies and initiatives. Alcohol is a definitive factor that needs to be considered in tackling the problem of domestic violence. In reference to local Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships tackling the problem of alcohol-related assault, the report strongly identified alcohol related disorder as a priority in their locality, through problem solving and initiative prevention. Crime Reduction Website Crime Reduction Toolkits: Alcohol Related Crime This toolkit is designed to help all those involved in crime reduction to work as effectively as possible. It brings together information on the latest developments in the UK plus research findings and promising approaches to reducing crime and disorder problems associated with alcohol. It includes tools for identifying problems, developing responses and monitoring progress and highlights practical measures to make communities safer. 2003 Crime and Disorder Partnerships: Alcohol-related crime and disorder in audit and strategy documents This briefing paper looks at the emphasis (or lack thereof) placed upon alcohol-related crime in local audit and strategy documents. It raises the issue of the involvement of alcohol in a significant percentage of crimes of various types but highlights the lack of evidence of a causal relationship between alcohol consumption and criminal activity. It notes that 40% of audit documents highlighted drunkenness as an issue, 60% related public order problems to alcohol, 9% highlighted a link between alcohol and domestic violence, and 5% linked alcohol consumption and vandalism. 2000

Scottish Government Alcohol Research The Scottish Government have published three research reports on the contribution that alcohol makes to crime and disorder and public perceptions of the impact of alcohol on crime and disorder. The reports are titled:"Underage drinking and the illegal purchase of alcohol", "Testing public opinion on licensing laws and alcohol consumption" and "Review of literature on the impact of licensing and other controls".
Social Issues Research Centre Counting The Cost: The Measurement and Recording of Alcohol-Related Violence and Disorder Research examined in detail the current procedures used to record and collate information on alcohol-related violence and disorder.
